PERDIZ & HARE HUNTS IN ARGENTINA
|
PERDIZ & HARE HUNTS IN ARGENTINAPerdiz (partridge) hunting is the most popular hunt among the Argentine hunters. The great amount of European immigrants who arrived during the beginning of the XX Century brought from their respective countries an ingrained tradition of bird shooting that was pronounced mainly in this type of hunt. In our case it is the ideal combination for a duck hunting morning during afternoon, although many hunters ask to hunt exclusively these species. The great prairies and plains dedicated to the cattle breeding constitute the ideal habitat for this activity. This hunt is done walking with pointer dogs through the countryside. The dogs (English and German pointers, Brittanies, etc.) especially trained for pointing and retrieve, find the bird´s tracks and marks the prey so that the hunter is noticed of its presence. When the hunter gives the order, the dog flashes the partridge that will take off with great speed and elegance, offering its´ target to the hunter. After the shot the dog reclaims the downcast prey and it retrieves it to the hunter.Several subspecies of partridges exist: Spotted partridge, Red winged partridge, Brushland partridge, Elegant crested partridge among others; being the most common the Spotted partridge (Maculosa Nothura). Its hunting season goes from May to August. Hare hunting is the habitual complement of partridge hunts since when the dogs are working in the field they mark both species indifferently. In our hunting areas we account on abundant population of both species which allows us to reach with facility the quotas determined by the provincial wildlife authorities.
