Q: choke recommendations for doves vs ducks
That's an excellent question for optimizing your hunt! Selecting the right choke can significantly impact your success, especially when targeting different birds like doves and ducks.
For High-Volume Dove Shooting, which we offer year-round, you'll generally want more open chokes. Doves are fast, erratic flyers, and shots are often taken at closer to medium ranges.
• Improved Cylinder (IC) is a very popular choice.
• Skeet or Light Modified (LM) can also be excellent, providing a wider pattern that's forgiving for quick, close shots.
These chokes allow for a broader shot pattern, increasing your chances of connecting with these quick birds in our world-class high-volume dove hunting fields.
For Duck Hunting, which is part of our Mixed Bag Program and runs from mid-May to mid-August, you typically need tighter chokes. Ducks are often shot at longer ranges, either over decoys or as pass shooting targets, and they are generally tougher birds.
• Modified (MOD) is a versatile choice for many duck hunting scenarios.
• Improved Modified (IM) or even Full (FULL) might be preferred for longer shots, especially if you're pass shooting or expect birds to be at the edge of your range.
Our professional team ensures you're placed in prime locations, and you won't need waders as our bird boys handle all retrievals, allowing you to focus purely on the shot.
Regardless of your preference, our expert guides are always on hand to assist with gun setup and provide recommendations based on the day's conditions and your shooting style. If you plan to rent guns through us, our team seamlessly handles all the logistics.
