    PIGEON HUNTING IN ARGENTINA

    Tactical Decoy Shooting

Patience is a Virtue: Tactical Pigeon Hunting

Wild pigeon hunting in Argentina is an experience that demands strategy, silence, and perfect concealment. Unlike the high-volume frenzy of dove shooting, pigeon hunting with decoys is a tactical game. These birds have incredible eyesight and can spot unusual movement from hundreds of yards away, making the "blind" setup and decoy placement crucial for success.

    The AWS Lodge Experience

At AWS Lodge, we offer pigeon hunting as a specialized part of our Mixed Bag program. We prioritize quality over quantity, focusing on the thrill of the "commit" as birds bank toward the decoys.

    • 📍 Strategic Locations: Our pigeon spots are located 30 to 50 minutes from the lodge, nestled in brushy marsh-edges where wild populations thrive.
    • 🎯 Conservation Minded: To ensure sustainable and ethical hunting, AWS Lodge enforces a limit of 40 pigeons per hunter per day.

    The Mighty Picazuro & Spot-Winged

Hunters in Argentina primarily target two wild species. The Picazuro Pigeon is the "big game" of the air—a large, powerful bird with a striking silver-scaled neck that flies with the strength of a mallard. The Spot-winged Pigeon, slightly smaller but incredibly fast, provides a different set of challenges with its agile flight patterns.

Understanding their behavior is part of the allure. These birds are sensitive to wind and weather, requiring our guides to constantly adjust the decoy spreads (rotating wings and magnets) to trick them into range. When a flock of Picazuros decides to drop into the spread, it’s one of the most exciting moments in Argentine wingshooting.

    The Pigeon Advantage

    🎯 Decoy Technique

We use state-of-the-art decoys, including flappers and magnets, to simulate a feeding ground. Watching birds react to the spread from miles away is pure adrenaline.

    🕶️ Master Camouflage

Total concealment is mandatory. Our blinds are built using natural vegetation to blend perfectly with the environment, keeping you invisible to the sharp eyes of the Picazuro.

    ❄️ Prime Season

Pigeon hunting is best during the Argentine winter (May to August), which aligns perfectly with our duck and perdiz seasons for a full mixed-bag experience.

    Pigeon Hunting FAQ

🔫 Is pigeon hunting high volume?
While pigeons are abundant, we manage it as a tactical sport with a limit of 40 birds per hunter. This ensures ethical standards and keeps the game challenging.

📅 When is the best time for pigeons?
The peak season is from May through August. Availability can vary year by year based on crop rotations near the lodge.

📍 How far is the drive?
Our pigeon fields are generally located within a 30 to 50 minute drive from AWS Lodge.

    Do I need special gear?
Darker camouflage or drab green/brown clothing is highly recommended. Pigeons will flared at the sight of light colors or skin glare.

🔄 Can I hunt only pigeons?
We offer pigeon as part of our Mixed Bag packages. Typically, it’s one or two sessions during your trip to provide variety.

    💰 Are shells included?
Shells are charged separately. We use premium local shells designed specifically for the toughness of wild pigeons.

"I was skeptical about the 'no internal flights' claim, but it's true. Landed in BA and was hunting by the afternoon. The mixed bag program allowed me to hunt ducks and perdiz in the same trip. Top notch."
