Q: clothing recs for winter (june-august)
For winter hunting with AWS Lodge between June and August, layering is absolutely key to staying comfortable and warm! Our mornings can be quite crisp, especially out in the field, but temperatures usually rise during the day.
Here are our recommendations to ensure you're well-prepared:
• Base Layers: Start with good quality thermal underwear (tops and bottoms) made of wool or synthetic materials to wick away moisture and provide insulation.
• Mid-Layers: Pack fleece jackets, vests, or light down jackets. These add warmth and can be easily removed as the day warms up.
• Outer Layer: A waterproof and windproof jacket and pants are essential. This will protect you from any potential rain or strong winds while hunting.
• Headwear: A warm hat (beanie or similar) is crucial for retaining body heat. A neck gaiter can also be very helpful.
• Gloves: Insulated, waterproof gloves are highly recommended for comfort and dexterity in the field.
• Footwear: Waterproof hunting boots are a must. Ensure they are comfortable for walking and provide good ankle support. Pair them with warm, moisture-wicking socks (wool or synthetic).
• Casual Lodge Wear: For evenings at the lodge, comfortable and casual clothing is perfect. Our lodge is warm and inviting, so you can relax after a day of hunting.
• Colors: Earth tones or camouflage are generally preferred for hunting.
