Q: for a january trip what's the actual day to day difference between a mixed bag hunt and a dove only hunt, like how does the schedule change or the type of hunt feel different
That's an excellent question, and it highlights the distinct experiences AWS Lodge offers. While both options provide an incredible wingshooting adventure in Argentina, the day-to-day schedule and the feel of the hunt differ significantly between a high-volume dove-only trip and a mixed bag hunt, especially in January.
Here's a breakdown:
High-Volume Dove-Only Hunt (January):
This program is all about continuous, high-intensity action with doves.
• Morning: You'll typically head out after a gourmet breakfast, arriving at one of our prime dove fields. The shooting is non-stop and exhilarating, with millions of doves flying over. You'll have a dedicated bird boy keeping your gun loaded and shells ready.
• Midday: Depending on the day, you'll either return to the lodge for a lavish lunch and a siesta, or enjoy a traditional Argentinian field lunch right under the trees, complete with a delicious BBQ and fine wines.
• Afternoon: The action continues with another thrilling dove shoot until sunset.
• Feel of the hunt: This is a pure adrenaline rush, focusing on sheer volume and honing your shotgun skills. It's fast-paced and incredibly productive, allowing you to shoot thousands of shells if you wish.
Mixed Bag Hunt (January):
A mixed bag hunt offers a more varied and comprehensive wingshooting experience, combining different species and styles of hunting throughout the day.
• Early Morning (Pre-dawn): Your day will start earlier, before sunrise, heading to one of our 32 private lagoons for duck hunting. This involves hunting from blinds, often over decoys, with the beautiful sunrise as your backdrop. The focus is on decoying and pass shooting ducks.
• Late Morning / Early Afternoon: After the duck hunt, you'll transition to perdiz hunting. This is a classic upland bird hunt performed over pointers, walking through fields and experiencing the thrill of flushing birds. It's a more active and strategic hunt, working closely with trained dogs.
• Afternoon: You'll then typically conclude your day with a high-volume dove hunt, similar to the dove-only program, providing that iconic Argentine experience.
• Feel of the hunt: This program offers a rich tapestry of wingshooting. You'll experience the quiet anticipation of a duck blind, the camaraderie with dogs during a perdiz walk, and the explosive action of a dove shoot, all in one day. It's a truly comprehensive and diverse experience.
Please note that the mixed bag program, which includes duck and perdiz, has an additional cost of quoted upon request by our team.
