Q: for april trip, doves vs ducks, should i be thinking different chokes or is there one that kinda works for both
Great question about chokes! Please note that Duck hunting is only available through our Mixed Bag program during the confirmed season, generally mid-May to mid-August, so it won't be part of an April trip — the duck info below applies if booking in season.
Doves are typically fast-flying targets, often taken at varying distances, so more open chokes like Improved Cylinder (IC) or Light Modified (LM) are generally preferred to give you a wider pattern. Ducks, on the other hand, especially depending on the specific hunting scenario (decoying vs. pass shooting), often benefit from tighter chokes like Modified (M) or even Full (F) for increased range and pattern density.
If you're looking for a single choke that can "kinda work for both," a Modified (M) choke is often considered a versatile choice. It provides a decent pattern for doves without being too tight, and offers enough range and density for many duck hunting situations. However, for optimal performance, dedicated chokes for each species would be ideal.
