Q: for our june trip, what kind of layering system should i be thinking about for winter duck hunting

AWS EXPERT REPLY
For your June duck hunting trip in Argentina, which falls during our winter, a robust layering system is crucial to stay warm and dry. Duck hunting often involves cold temperatures, especially early mornings, and the possibility of rain or wet conditions.

Here’s what we recommend:

1. Base Layer (Moisture-Wicking): Start with a synthetic or merino wool base layer. This should be snug against your skin to wick away sweat and keep you dry. Avoid cotton, as it retains moisture and will make you cold.
2. Mid-Layer (Insulation): Add one or two insulating layers. Fleece jackets, down vests, or lightweight puffy jackets are excellent choices. These layers trap warm air close to your body.
3. Outer Layer (Waterproof & Windproof): This is perhaps the most critical layer for duck hunting. You'll need a high-quality waterproof and windproof jacket and pants (or waders with integrated pants). Look for materials like Gore-Tex or similar breathable waterproof fabrics. Camouflage patterns are often preferred.
4. Waders: Good quality insulated waders are essential for staying dry in the marsh. Ensure they fit well and allow for comfortable movement.
5. Headwear: A warm, waterproof hat or beanie is vital, as a significant amount of body heat is lost through the head.
6. Gloves: Waterproof and insulated gloves are a must for keeping your hands warm and functional in cold, wet conditions.
7. Socks: Wear thick, moisture-wicking socks, preferably wool or synthetic blends, to keep your feet warm inside your waders.

"I was skeptical about the 'no internal flights' claim, but it's true. Landed in BA and was hunting by the afternoon. The mixed bag program allowed me to hunt ducks and perdiz in the same trip. Top notch."

"The food alone is worth the trip. The asados in the field were incredible. If you are looking for a luxury lodge near Buenos Aires, this is the one. Can't wait to return next season."
