1. Base Layers: Start with good quality thermal underwear (tops and bottoms) made of merino wool or synthetic materials. These wick away moisture and provide essential warmth.
2. Mid-Layers: Fleece jackets, sweaters, or insulated vests are perfect for adding warmth without bulk. You'll want to be able to add or remove these easily.
3. Outer Shell: A waterproof and windproof hunting jacket and pants are crucial. Look for something durable and breathable. Camouflage patterns are not strictly necessary for dove hunting, but earth tones are always a good choice.
4. Headwear: A warm beanie or hat is essential to retain body heat, especially during early morning hunts.
5. Gloves: Insulated, waterproof gloves are highly recommended to keep your hands warm and protected.
6. Socks: Multiple pairs of warm, moisture-wicking socks (wool or synthetic) are a must. Consider bringing a thinner pair for layering under thicker ones if needed.
7. Footwear: Comfortable, waterproof hunting boots are critical. Ensure they are well broken-in before your trip. You'll be spending time walking in the fields, and dry, warm feet make all the difference.
