Duck Hunting FAQ
📅 What is the best time for Ducks?
The season is strictly during the Argentine winter: May 1st to August 31st. June and July are typically the peak months for plumage and activity.
👢 Do I need to bring Waders?
No. This is a major advantage at AWS Lodge. We hunt from dry blinds or boats. You can hunt in comfortable boots. If wading is ever required, we provide the gear, but 90% of our hunts are "dry feet".
Is there a bag limit?
Yes, unlike doves, ducks are regulated. The limit is generous (typically 15-20 ducks per hunter per morning, depending on current provincial regulations). It provides plenty of action for a morning shoot.
🔫 What shotguns do you rent?
We have a stock of Benelli and Beretta semi-autos in 20ga and 12ga. For ducks, 12ga is often preferred, but 20ga with magnum loads is very effective and lighter to carry.
❄️ How cold does it get?
Mornings are crisp (30°F - 45°F / 0°C - 7°C). We recommend dressing in layers: thermal underwear, fleece, and a waterproof jacket. By noon, it usually warms up pleasantly.
🐕 Do you use dogs?
No, we use trained assistants :) to pick up birds in the water, ensuring an ethical hunt and recovering downed birds efficiently.
📍 How far is the drive to the blinds?
Very short. Unlike other lodges where you travel an hour, our blinds are usually 5 to 45 minutes from the lodge door.
🔄 Can I combine this with other species?
Absolutely. The standard program is "Mixed Bag": Ducks in the morning, Perdiz or Doves in the afternoon. It's the ultimate Argentina experience.
